I’ve been seeing this plastered all over the net for a couple of days, mainly in spam. It seems someone has decided to use spam to stick it to ‘the man’ because this sequence of hexidecimal numbers is apparently the key to the encryption on the majority of HD-DVD released to date. I’m wondering what the deal is with players, do they have this code hardwired in? If so changing this code now will render those HD-DVD players useless as they’ll only be able to decode discs with the older key. Its this kind of guerilla action that the net is ideally suited to. An extremely speedy way of disseminating information which others would rather stayed secret. I wonder when we’ll start seeing political spam, revealing news stories which governments don’t want reported?
