That's not quite what I meant, I'm not talking about writing something and then losing interest. That is a symptom of a greater malaise. The problem is because I'm interested in so much I can't shut it all out in favour of one subject for very long. If I'm going to do something, in my current state I have to get it done and completed very quickly before I'm distracted by something else. I the thing I want to achieve requires my attention for an extended period of time I lose interest unless I achieve tangible results quickly.

You need a cliffhanger! When you have an idea write it down and leave it for a few days if you have not forgotten about it by then go back and read what you have written. Is it still a good idea? If it is limit your time spent in persuing it. Work on it for half an hour or an hour a day. Set an alarm you must stop when the alarm sounds even if it is mid sentence that way you will always have a cliff hanger. You need to go back to it and perhaps you will not burn out or tire of it as easily. Ah we all live in american TV land use there philosophy it seems to work. Whats down that damn hatch?
