Noel doesn’t know what he’s talking about

Noel Gallagher, though a talented songwriter, should keep his mouth shut about things he doesn’t understand. How many of his own fans does he think he’s talking about when he makes such a banal and blatantly ignorant statement? Either he’s hungry for some publicity (in which case jumping on this particular bandwagon is sure to get him some) or he feels that his opinion is more valid than that of experts in this feild.
Does he have a degree in pshychology? Is he a game designer? Does he play games? does he even associate with those who commit knife crime? I’m willing to bet that the answer to three of these questions is no. Like it or not playing video games is something that pretty much everyone does, and guess what; not everyone who plays games goes out and stabs people. As he would realise if he lived in the real world and spoke to real people and not the fawning sycophants he has no doubt been surrounded with.
He’s perpetuating the same logical fallacy that many who campaign against gaming do, which is this: People who stab people play video games, therefore the games must make them do it.I could apply the same logic to his profession: He is a popular musician, popular music is associated with drug use and rampant promiscuity, therefore he uses drugs and is rampantly promiscuous. Oh, hang on a minute.
One word describes this argument and Mr. Galagher’s involvement with it and that word is: FAIL.

Well, I’m certainly not going to disagree.
Honestly, though, when the opening appeal to authority is “people say”…
Like you said though, the fact is “some” people who are violent play games. That does not make it a one to one ratio of game players to violent people, or even prove a connection. I’m willing to bet those people also piss in their bathrooms, but I don’t see anyone making a big fuss about that.
Our website has been referred to by one reader as an “Oasis-Nerd-Mafia” and although we love Oasis, and believe musically they can do no wrong (not counting Standing on the Shoulders of Giants) we have to agree with you. In fact, Noel was the reason we started our very own investigative report into violence in video games. We’d love to hear what you think:
