presenceofmind.net brings the spellchecker into the 21st century. This needs to be done. I can see the implications for AI developement already, if a computer knows and understands the language then communication between humans and AI is that much easier. There are a multitude of online dictionaries available is there some way of tapping these to get a starting lexicon? Then all that would be needed would be to create plugins for the major blogging tools which checked the spelling in posts as you posted them. Wiktionary is a dictionary built along the same lines as Wikipedia which would seem to be ideal for what Mr. Swann is suggesting in that it’s already built and created by its users. I have no Idea where one would begin with regards to tapping such a resource however, let alone making it reactive to the spelling that it checks. I’m no master programmer, merely a minor PHP monkey. I’ll be looking into this however and trying to figure out how it might be doable.
